Biofach 2014 - The Report

In February this year we again exhibited at Biofach in Nuremberg, Germany.

Biofach is the world’s leading fair for organic produce, cosmetics - you name it! It is also a chance for us to meet with our organic cheese clients and potential new customers from across the globe.

This year we met people from 30 countries spread across five continents. We certainly have opened up new business from this event and consolidated our relationships to our long term partners – especially in Europe. The networking effect of these international shows cannot be underestimated. For example we saw the efforts of the staff from our certifying body – the UK Soil Association – negotiating with partner organizations from around the world.

Any of these events require commitment over a long period and this was our third time at Biofach – we are booking again to keep those conversations going.

HSBC Global Connections

Helping businesses grow internationally

We are happy to announce that Lye Cross Farm have progressed to being regional finalists in the HSBC Global Connections competition.

Peter Alvis will now have to give a presentation to an HSBC panel in June for the next national stage.

Taken from the HSBC site:

Alvis Brothers Limited, Lye Cross Farm - South West and Wales Regional Finalist

Peter Alvis

Peter Alvis, Managing Director of Alvis Brothers Limited, Lye Cross Farm tells us more about the business.

Tell us about your business

Alvis Brothers is a third generation family farming and cheese making business, farming 4,600 acres and producing 4,500 tonnes of Cheddar cheese per annum. Cheese sales are growing significantly with strong market growth in export to 40 countries. Continuing investment in technology both on the farms and in cheese processing is creating opportunities we have previously been unable to exploit, both in the UK and export markets. Green energy is a major driving factor having installed significant energy recycling capacity and with plans to invest in both solar and anaerobic digestion well underway.

My personal background includes a degree in Engineering which has equipped me well to develop these opportunities alongside my role as managing Director. What makes your business stand out from the rest? Cheddar Cheese from the Cheddar area, handmade on the farm, with care for the people that produce it and the environment from which it comes. From pasture to plate.

Why do you think you should win Global Connections? What makes your business stand out?

Lye Cross Farm is building a business for the future using the latest technology and renewable energy to produce quality dairy products for customers around the world.
