Alvis Brothers Ltd have taken action to improve the watercourse surrounding Lye Cross Farm following two pollution incidents in 2019. Working with the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust, a survey from October 2020 shows a marked improvement in the health of the watercourse under the control of Alvis Brothers Ltd.
The pollution incidents, which involved a tributary to the River Yeo, near Cheddar, were reported to the Environment Agency. Immediate action was taken by Alvis Brothers on both occasions to ensure that no further pollution occurred.
The company deeply regret and sincerely apologise for the incidents. After 70 years of trading, Alvis Brothers remain committed to farming and producing high quality food in harmony with the environment.

Lye Cross Farm are delighted to announce that that their unique independently Certified 100% Grass-Fed Organic Mature Cheddar has been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ by The Grocer New Product Awards.
Peter Alvis, Managing Director, says “This is fantastic news. We have achieved this as a result of hard work from all areas of the business; starting with working alongside the supplying farmers, the cheesemakers in our dairy, and the production staff in our packing hall to mention only a few of the teams involved. This is a product that we are very proud of and are glad to see it earn the recognition it deserves”.
The cows are free to roam on herb rich pastures and their diet consists entirely of grass and forage, free from any artificial fertilisers and pesticides. The end result is that our handmade 100% Grass-Fed Cheddar is rich and buttery and, because of the higher levels of beta-carotene present in the milk, is a strong yellow colour. Due to holistic farming methods and the environment in which they are managed the cows in the dairy herd have also never been treated with antibiotics.
This cheese has been certified as organic by the Soil Association, Animal Welfare approved by A Greener World, and has been certified as 100% Grass-Fed by A Greener World and the Pasture Fed Livestock Association.

We are continuing to offer our home delivery service to the over 70s, however due to the Easter Bank Holidays we will not be delivering on either Good Friday or Easter Monday. Our office will also be closed on these days so please keep this in mind if you need a delivery early next week.
If you are within a 5 mile radius of the Lye Cross Farm Shop (not sure give us a call!) you can call in with your order and we will deliver within the next day or so, and to help avoid contact we can take the payment over the telephone and then knock and drop at your door.
Alternatively, if you would like to collect from the Farm Shop we can take the order and payment and then pop it in your boot!
Please be patient as I’m sure you are aware not every product is readily available at the moment and we are doing our best to ensure we are fully stocked – we might not have exactly what you would like but will try to get very close..
